Hibiscus flower has been used as a mild laxative, diuretic, in colds and catarrh of the upper respiratory tract. In the countries of tropical and subtropical zones of Africa, America and Asia, the infusion constitutes a refreshing drink that corrects the taste and to which diuretic properties are attributed. The flower contains a high content of organic acids, among which citric, malic, and tartaric acids and hibiscic acid stand out, which is characteristic of the drug. The characteristic red color of the flower is due to anthocyanins. It is recommended to use an infusion of 1.5 g per cup (150 ml) 3 times a day.
