Tolix's H stool has been an industrial design icon for nearly a century, becoming a classic, etched in our collective memory, an example of "living heritage" which exemplifies the French way of life... The H stool, which embodies the modern style of the 1930s-1950s, is characterized by its robustness and low weight. It is stackable and so addresses concerns about space-saving. Its practical design and streamlined aesthetic has been fundamental to its success. It adorned a large number of café terraces before then being used in a domestic setting from the 1950s onwards. Its designer, Xavier Pauchard, used stamped sheet metal and zinc for the first time to manufacture mass-produced furniture. Today, the company has high-performing, digital machines which it uses alongside its many manual operations and traditional tools. So, every stool that leaves the Tolix factory is unique and bears the Tolix signature stamped on the metal. It was only fitting, therefore, that TOLIX was awarded the "Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant” label in 2006 by the Ministry of Economy, Finances and Industry.
