Internationally-renowned engraver Malcolm Appleby has made these original sterling silver brooches for the RSPB to raise funds for the conservation of this highly endangered, charismatic bird and the native Caledonian pine forest habitat upon which it depends. The front depicts a lekking capercaillie, tail feathers fanned, and on the reverse (engraving on the back is a feature of Malcolm's work) is a granny pine. 'It has a big head and lovely wings and on the back is a caper-shaped granny pine. Scots pine are brilliant things, so full of life and important for capercaillie survival' says Malcolm.
