Painter and designer, the Belgian artist Maria Scarpulla creates minimalist objects that resemble pictorial works. There is a powerful interaction between shapes and colours in her generally abstract works, in an expression that’s both constructed and spontaneous. Her collection of Tramonto wall lights comes from a series of paintings. The artist began by painting these colourful geometric shapes which later turned into wall lights. Even after adding the technical items required for a lamp, the Tramonto wall lights faithfully reproduce the original pictorial work, with the addition of a soft halo of light added to it. The Italian name Tramonto means sunset. Indeed, the halo that surrounds the lamp recalls the brilliant horizon after a sunset. When designing an object, Maria questions its obvious function, consciously seeking a way to transcend its basic utility. As such, a wall light becomes a multifunctional object, serving to illuminate, create an atmosphere, or simply for decoration. In Maria's interpretation, the object becomes as changeable as its many functions. This collection consists of 6 wall lights, in different shapes and colours, that can be easily combined to create a beautiful composition. Equipped with an integrated LED, the minimalist, expressive lamps from the Tramonto collection are made of steel.
