Hay - Dining chair Crate - White - Solid pine - Designer Gerrit Rietveld
Hay Dining chair White Wood. Dimensions: L 57.5 x Depth 64cm x H 81cm - Seat: H 45 cm. A design icon revisited! The Crate armchair was created in 1934 by design legend Gerrit Rietveld. The item entered the history of world design. Avant-garde Dutch architect and designer GERRIT RIETVELD was one of the first to take an interest in the industrial production of furniture. In 1934, under the influence of the De Stijl artistic movement, RIETVELD sought to combine pure forms and primary colours. He created the Crate Chair: the first piece of furniture made from simple reclaimed wooden crates. A raw aesthetic for this armchair made of an assembly of rectangular wooden planks simply screwed together. From 1934, this armchair was sold as a self-assembly kit and was available in different colours: a totally revolutionary concept for the time. The simplicity of shapes and materials launched the Poor Art style. In 2023, the descendants of GERRIT RIETVELD, in collaboration with Danish brand Hay, have decided to reissue Crate Chair and produce a complete outdoor collection based around the original model. Produced by Hay, the Crate collection is made of solid pine treated with a water-based exterior lacquer. Hay immediately knew that this collaboration had unique potential, making these Dutch design icons once again available for our gardens and terraces. Respect for these timeless designs is the cornerstone of this inspiring project. > Flash sale: special price for a limited time only.
