Asplenium scolopendrium Cristata (9cm pot)
A shade-loving, crinkled, hardy evergreen fern. Position: partial or full shade Soil: humus-rich, moist, well-drained, preferably alkaline soil Rate of growth: average Hardiness: fully hardy Each spring, fresh new frilly edged, strap-shaped fronds unfurl above the existing foliage, creating upright ‘crinkled’ clumps, which look super when grown in naturalised clusters. It’s a useful fern for adding vertical interest towards the front of a partially shaded border, or for edging in a moist woodland garden. Handsome and decorative, ‘Cristata’ is a compact, evergreen native fern that will genuinely thrive in deep shade. Garden care: Plant into soil that has been improved with organic matter and water regularly during the growing season. Do not allow the soil or compost to dry out until the plant has become established. Tatty or damaged fronds can be removed in early spring as or just before the new growth emerges.
