Vitamin D3 Vitamin D is one of the fat soluble vitamins. There are a few forms of Vitamin D, including Ergocalciferol (D2) and Cholecalciferol (D3). Recent data has shown that D3-Cholecalciferol is the most beneficial and has the highest bio-efficacy in the body. It is produced naturally in the skin and stored in the liver of many animals. Hence, why liver, cod liver oil and oily fish are great source of D3. Vitamin D can also be produced inside the body as well as consumed. However, countries such as the UK do not have the right amount of sunshine all-year-round to provide this ability consistently. Dietary sources of Vitamin D include cod liver oils, sardines, salmon, sunflower seeds, eggs and cheese. Vitamin D contributes to normal blood calcium levels, which contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and normal teeth. Vitamin D also contributes to the maintenance of normal muscle function. Vitamin K2 Vitamin K2 is also commonly known as the name menaquinone. It is known as a fat-soluble vitamin that has a high affinity for storage, the majority (90%) of Vitamin K2 is stored in the Liver. It exists in nine different forms ranging from Mk1-9. The most well known forms of Vitamin K2 in terms of health are menaquinone-4 (MK4), menaquinone-7 (MK7) and menaquinone-9 (MK9). The numbers after the MK such as "4" refer to the chemical chains that stem off the quinone ring structure, the bigger the number, the longer the chain, and the greater the biological half-life. Vitamin K2 can be made within the body, however, this is only made in very small amounts. Vitamin K2 is also found in many common foods, including dairy, eggs yogurt, spinach, green leafy vegetables and Japanese natto (soybean).
