Origins of Maca The Maca we know is part of the Maca root from the Lepidium meyenii plant, originating from the Andes mountains in South America. The name 'Maca' is thought to originate from two Chibcha words; ma meaning 'height' and ca meaning 'good food that strengthens'. Traditionally, Maca was supposedly given to the Inca warriors in South America before heading into battle as the root provided the warriors with beneficial strength and endurance. Maca is deemed a 'superfood' due to its traditional properties. Many people in the Western world seek the same therapeutic properties that Maca gave the Inca warriors.
