Origins of Ginseng Ginseng, or Panax ginseng as it is known in Latin vocabulary, belongs to the Araliaceae family. The Latin term Panax originates from the Greek word panacea which means 'cure-all'. Ginseng is the English term for the plant and derives from the Chinese name, ren shen, which means 'man' and 'herb' due to its resemblance to the shape of the human body. The plant was traditionally associated with a mountain god who had sent his son to humans to be their saviour, and only those worthy could find the root. Arabian merchants introduced the root to Europe in the Middle Ages but the root was soon banned following the people's ignorance about the root. The plant is native to East Asia and thrives in shady mountain forests. The Ginseng root sits beneath a long stem that grows to 80cm which contains white flowers and red berries. The top of the root divides into two which gives the characteristic human-like form. Benefits of Ginseng Ginseng has a multitude of nutritional health benefits, including contributing to the body's immunity, concentration levels and coordination. The root releases ginsenosides, a compound which prompts the production of energy and gives a calming effect in stressful situations. The root is also known for its glucose metabolism properties to prevent a sudden decrease in blood glucose levels which prevents fatigue. As well as its antioxidative properties, Ginseng increases lactic acid breakdown to extend endurance performance. Our Ginseng tablets Our Ginseng tablets are provided in two strengths of 1,300mg and 3,125mg. The tablets are 9mm and 18mm respectively.
