What is Lactoferrin?Lactoferrin is a multifunctional protein that is found in human milk and cow milk. It is one of the transferrin proteins that transfers iron to the cells. There are several types of Lactoferrin, at least 60 gene sequences of lactoferrin have been found in 11 species of mammals. Lactoferrin is one of the main ingredients of the first milk that babies receive, which includes the nutrients they need in order to grow. Origins of LactoferrinStudies on the occurrence of Lactoferrin date back to 1939, but the protein could not be properly characterized because it could not be extracted with sufficient purity.
