Natures Plus Acidophilus is a food supplement made from Lactobacillus acidophilus. Lactobacillus acidophilus is a predominant bacteria in our digestive tract, mainly in the stomach, duodenum, jejunum and ileum. L. acidophilus produces lactic acid, hydrogen peroxide, and other byproducts of its metabolism that create a hostile environment for the development of pathogenic flora. It has the ability to synthesize B group vitamins such as niacin, folic acid and vitamin B₆ (pyridoxine). Lactobacillus acidophilus supplements may be necessary to restore the balance of the gastrointestinal flora and minimize episodes of diarrhea.
